Police have assured that those responsible for the attack on Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College in Jatrabari will be arrested within 24 hours.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wari Division Saleh Uddin said while addressing teachers, students, and locals in front of the college around 4pm on Monday (Nov 25).
DC Saleh Uddin said, "I won’t call this an accident. A group of thousands of individuals, disguised as students, organized an illegal gathering and carried out a premeditated attack on Molla College to disrupt law and order in the area."
He added, "We initially tried to stop them at Jatrabari intersection with our limited police force, but they ignored our efforts. Armed with sticks, and supported by locals, they stormed the college and launched an attack."
"We entered the college premises along with members of the armed forces and inspected several floors and rooms. The destruction was massive. Assets worth crores of takas have been looted. This is disgraceful, and we believe a vested group is behind this incident," said the DC.
He further assured, "We will not tolerate such incidents anymore. Those involved will be brought to justice within 24 hours. A case will be filed, and I urge the locals to cooperate with the legal proceedings."
The attack occurred around noon when several hundred students from Shahid Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College stormed Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College.
Following the vandalism and looting, clashes broke out between the students of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College, locals, and students from the other two colleges around 1pm.
