Dhaka has ranked second on the list of cities with the worst air quality, registering an AQI score of 291 at 9:01 am on Saturday.

The air was classified as "very unhealthy," posing serious health risks to residents.

Pakistan's Lahore topped the list with an AQI score of 435, while Vietnam's Hanoi and India's Delhi ranked third and fourth with scores of 197 and 186, respectively.

The AQI scale categorizes air quality as follows: 50-100 (moderate), 101-150 (unhealthy for sensitive groups), 151-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy), and 301+ (hazardous).

Dhaka's air quality often worsens in winter, with significant improvements during the monsoon.

According to the World Health Organization, air pollution is responsible for an estimated seven million deaths worldwide annually.
