Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Major General Mohammad Ashraful Zaman Siddiquee, said that Bangladesh will not make any concessions to India on any issues.
He made the remark during a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat on Wednesday (January 29).
The meeting focused on the upcoming border conference between the BGB and the Border Security Force (BSF) of India.
Major General Siddiquee said that he had informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about working on the unequal agreements with India.
He assured that these issues will be addressed through diplomatic channels and emphasized that Bangladesh will not back down on matters where it believes it has been unfairly treated.
Responding to a question, he said that before the border conference, a session will be held with the media, where specific details will be shared.
He pointed out that border killings would be a key agenda for the conference and reiterated that no concessions will be made on this matter.
National Security Advisor Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also commented on the unequal agreements with India, particularly a 2010 deal that had led to significant issues.
He mentioned the Three Bigha and Dahagram Corridors and expressed the intention to push for the cancellation of these agreements.
When asked about other unequal agreements, Chowdhury referred to the Kulaura railway station, which is located three kilometers inside Bangladesh’s border. Discussions will be held on whether India should be allowed to operate within this zone, and a proposal for an immigration checkpoint is also under consideration. He also highlighted other unequal agreements signed in 1974, 1975, and 2011 with India.
