Police have recovered the hanging bodies of five people, including two women and three men, in Ashulia, Savar, within 24 hours. 

The bodies were found between Monday (February 10) afternoon and Tuesday (February 11) noon in different locations, including Dendabor Kathalbagan, Jamgora Kathaltola, and Khajurbagan.

The deceased was identified as Md. Shaon, son of Mostofa from Boroitola village in Patharghata, Barguna, and his wife Hafiza, daughter of Shah-Alam Matbar from Jamaddar Bari village in the same district. They were both garment workers. The other victims are a young woman from Debiganj, Panchagarh, Hridoy from Kumarpara, Karimganj, Kishoreganj, and garment worker Mostofa from Rediance Jeans Limited in Khajurbagan, Ashulia.

According to police they recovered the body of Farzana Begum from the house of retired Subedar Mokbul in Dendabor Kathalbagan on Monday afternoon after being informed by locals. Later that night, around 12:30 AM, they found the bodies of Shaon and Hafiza hanging from the same rope in Afaz Uddin’s house in Jamgora Kathaltola. It is suspected that they died by suicide due to family issues, though the exact reason remains unknown.

On Tuesday morning, police recovered the body of Hridoy from Shah-Alam’s house in Khajurbagan. He was reportedly addicted to drugs. Following a dispute, he allegedly cut his wife’s hair and forced her out of the house before taking his own life, said police.

Later in the afternoon, Mostofa, a worker at Rediance Jeans Limited, was found hanging inside the factory. Fellow workers protested, suspecting he was murdered and then hanged. 

Police said further details would be revealed after an investigation.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur Alam Siddiqui told Banglanews that the five bodies were recovered within 24 hours, and initial reports suggest all died by hanging. 

However, confirmation will come after autopsy reports, he said. 

This officer said that most of these cases seem linked to family disputes, but a thorough investigation is underway.
