Former Dhaka University professor, Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, was sworn in as a new member of the Advisory Council of the interim government on Wednesday morning at 11:05 AM.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered his oath at a ceremony at Bangabhaban.
During the brief event, Abrar took the oath for the advisory position and the oath of secrecy, followed by signing the oath book.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, had earlier confirmed Abrar’s appointment, citing Prof. Wahiduddin Mahmud's inability to manage two ministries simultaneously.
Abrar, an expert in refugee and labor migration issues, replaces Prof. Mahmud in the advisory council.
Born in Faridpur on August 17, 1952, Abrar is a distinguished scholar and served at Dhaka University for over four decades.
He is currently the executive director of the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) and has conducted extensive research on the Rohingya refugee crisis, labor migration, and the citizenship status of the Urdu-speaking community in Bangladesh.
