PM pays homage to Bangabandhu

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet colleagues paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his portrait on Friday morning marking the historic March 7.

After placing the wreath at the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi at 7:00am, the Prime Minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the great leader.

Later, Dhanmondi-32 has been opened for all to pay tribute to Bangabandhu. Leaders of City unit Awami League, Chhatra League, Juba League, Swecchasebok League, Mohila Awami League, Sramik League, Tanti League and its front organizations placed floral wreaths to portrait of Bangabandhu.

After paying homage, Industries minister, also Awami League Advisory Council Member, Amir Hossain Amu said, the Awami League government will not be toppled by the movement of BNP. There is nothing to worry about their movement.

He said all have to learn from speech of March 7 to take forward the country.

On this day in 1971, the undisputed leader of the Bengalis Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered a speech of independence in front millions of freedom-loving people at the Race Course Maidan, now known as Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka.

The Bengali people were inspired to prepare for a potential war of independence, amid widespread reports of armed mobilization by West Pakistan. During the speech, Sheikh Mujib proclaimed, "Our struggle is for our freedom. Our struggle is for our independence"
