Bangladeshi shot dead in South Africa

A Bangladeshi businessman was shot dead by armed robbers in South Africa.

The deceased Kamrul Islam, 27, was from West Karmullahpur in Yakubpur Union under Daganbhuiyan Upazila of Feni. He was the son of the late Abdul Mannan Mia.

The incident took place around 9:00 pm on Thursday in Vepener, a town in the Free State province.

According to family sources, Kamrul moved to South Africa 12 years ago for work and later established his own business. While closing his shop on Thursday night, two black robbers entered, looted cash and valuables, and then forced him to his car, thinking more money was inside. They shot him in the left side of his chest, killing him on the spot.

Kamrul, brother the deceased said that the family is in touch with relatives in South Africa to arrange the repatriation of his body.

Daganbhuiyan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) S. M. Azharul Islam confirmed the matter.
