Another one died in Bogura after consuming suspected toxic alcohol, bringing the death toll from the incident to three, authorities confirmed.

The latest victim, a young man, died while receiving treatment at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital on Saturday night (March 29). Two others had succumbed on Friday (March 28).

The deceased have been identified as Aurangzeb (35), the adopted son of the late Moazzem Hossain from Thanthania Haji Para in Bogra Sadar Upazila; Russell (30), son of Abu Taleb from Thanthania Battala; and Soni Roy (30). Another individual, Pilu (56), remains hospitalized.

According to reports, the four men consumed alcohol together on Thursday evening (March 27) and began experiencing severe health complications the following day.

Pilu, the sole survivor currently undergoing treatment, told reporters that Russell had purchased the alcohol in plastic bottles from Rail Ghumti No. 1 in the city.

"The four of us drank together that afternoon. Later that night, we all started feeling unwell," he said.

He added that he hesitated to seek medical help due to fear of police action but was eventually admitted to the hospital. Soni, another victim, was also taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Dr. Saifur Shaheen, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Bogura Mohammad Ali Hospital, stated that Pilu had been admitted with diarrhea, which was now under control. However, due to breathing difficulties and stomach pain, he was transferred to the hospital's medicine department and remains in critical condition. "It will only be confirmed through tests whether his condition was caused by alcohol poisoning," he said.

A relative of Aurangzeb, who requested anonymity, said both Aurangzeb and Russell had a history of alcohol consumption. After falling ill, Aurangzeb was initially admitted to Mohammad Ali Hospital around 3 am on Friday but left without informing anyone.

Later in the evening, when his condition worsened, he was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where he died around 7:30 pm. Russell had died earlier that afternoon, while Soni passed away on Saturday night.

Inspector (Investigation) AKM Moin Uddin of Bogra Sadar Police Station said officers were dispatched to the victims’ homes after receiving reports of the alcohol-related deaths.

However, the bodies had already been buried. "Legal proceedings are underway to investigate the incident," he added.
