JOYPURHAT: BNP-backed candidate Kamruzzaman Kamol was elected as chairman at Akkelpur upazila through voting at 35 polling centers on Saturday.

Availing Motorcycle symbol, he bagged 38,831 votes while his nearest ruling Awami League-backed aspirant Mahfuz Chowdhury got 34,126 votes.

Earlier, the election took place in 81 upazilas of 41 districts across the country from 8:00am to 4:00pm Saturday without any break amid violence in different places.
