DHAKA: The Dol utsav, a festival of Hindu community, is being celebrated in the country on Sunday at the time of Holy.
During this festival the pilgrims visit the shrine, temple and offer colours (Holi) to the feet of Idol. People purchase sweets and distribute each other on this festival.
It explores the dawn of the beautiful morning that ends the full-moon night of the month of Phalgun with lots of colors and fun. The festival indicates the onset of spring; it is also celebrated as the season of harvest. This is the time the dreary winter ends, giving rise to multiple colors of spring, bringing in rich abundance of flora and fauna.
In this day, the Hindu people of all ages persist with colors and amusing events. Out in the streets meanwhile the boys are at war with passing pedestrians, all of whom are bound on this privileged day to submit to being pelted with many colors.
This long cherished tradition is mainly observed in Hindu colonized areas as city’s Shankhari Bazaar, Tanti Bazaar, Bangla Bazaar, Laxmi Bazaar and others.
It is also known as festival of love. Many young boys and girls choose the day as the best occasion to express their feeling.
Everyone plays, chases and colors each other with dry powder and colored water to friend or stranger, rich or poor, man or woman, children and elders. Groups of young people carry drums and musical instruments, go from place to place, sing and dance.
This festival leans more toward the religious and spiritual aspects on Dol Purnima day.
In the evening, after sobering up, people dress up, visit friends and family. Every year this festival is celebrated with joy and happiness in the country by Hindu community as well as in other parts of the world.
