A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Madla border in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria on Sunday night (May 4).
The deceased was identified as Shakib Mia, 18, son of Motaleb Mia from Madla village under Bayek Union. His body was brought home on Monday morning (May 5), according to family sources.
According to family members, a group of local youths took Shakib to the border area, reportedly for work-related purposes. At one point, BSF opened fire at them, and Shakib was shot.
Locals rescued him in critical condition and first took him to Kasba Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was shifted to a hospital in Dhaka, where he died while undergoing treatment.
The death has caused deep sorrow in the victim’s family, who have demanded a fair investigation into the incident.
Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shamiul Islam said they received reports that Shakib had gone to the border area to bring in a smuggled motorcycle.
He said Shakib was shot when BSF opened fire and later died during treatment.
The body is now at his home, and legal procedures are underway, he added.
