Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus returned to Dhaka early Sunday after concluding a four-day official visit to Japan, where he held high-level meetings and signed multiple bilateral agreements aimed at deepening economic and diplomatic ties.
A Singapore Airlines flight carrying Prof Yunus and his entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 12:15 am, said Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
During the visit, Yunus met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, with both leaders pledging to finalize an Economic Partnership Agreement soon.
Japan also committed US$ 1.063 billion in support for Bangladesh, including loans for economic reform, railway development, and a human development scholarship.
The trip included the signing of eight MoUs and agreements on trade, investment, and manpower, including Japan’s plan to recruit 100,000 Bangladeshi workers over the next five years.
Yunus also addressed the Nikkei Forum and received an Honorary Doctorate from Soka University in recognition of his global contributions.
