DHAKA: New Zealand’s former Prime Minister also special envoy Jim Bolger due Dhaka on a two-day visit on March 23 for Bangladeshi support to get non-permanent membership to United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Foreign ministry sources confirmed the matter to banglanews.
New Zealand is interested to be a non-permanent member of United Nations Security Council. For this reason, the country will seek the Bangladesh support.
United Nations Security Council will elect 10 countries as non-permanent member on October for 2015-16 tenure.
Security Council is composed of 15 members where five are permanent and 10 others are non-permanent.
Bangladesh also will compete for non-permanent membership of Security Council for 2016-17 tenure.
Jim Bolger will meet Prime Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Mahmud Ali during his two day visit.
