The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over two Bangladeshi nationals to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) following a commander-level flag meeting at the Hili border in Dinajpur.
The handover took place at around 9:45 pm on Friday (June 27), according to a press release issued by Subedar Asim Mark, Company Commander of Hili CP BOP Camp.
The individuals returned were identified as MM Al Amin, 38, son of MM Ibrahim Dulal from Savar, and Suman, 20, son of Shahidul Islam from Paharpur in Dinajpur district town.
According to BGB sources, the BSF had arrested the two Bangladeshis on June 26 around 5:00pm, approximately 25 kilometres inside Indian territory from the jurisdiction of Hili CP BOP.
The BSF later called for a flag meeting with the BGB to facilitate their return.
Verification of the detainees’ identities was conducted with the assistance of local residents and public representatives before the formal handover.
BGB officials stated that legal action is being taken against the two for crossing the border illegally.
