Dhaka has been ranked 22nd among cities with the worst air quality, recording an AQI score of 72 at 10:15am on Sunday.
According to the AQI index, the city's air was classified as “moderate,” posing a light health risk, especially for sensitive individuals.
The capital’s air quality has remained at this level for the past few days. Uganda’s Kampala, Pakistan’s Lahore, and Indonesia’s Jakarta topped the list with significantly higher AQI scores of 186, 166, and 153, respectively.
Air pollution remains a persistent challenge for Dhaka, typically worsening in winter and improving during the monsoon.
As per the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution kills an estimated seven million people worldwide every year.
