Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda was detained and handed over to the police by a group of angry locals in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Sunday (June 22) evening.
According to Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Hafizur Rahman, Huda has a case filed against him, and legal procedures are currently underway following his arrest.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Uttara Division, Md Mahidul Islam, said that Huda was taken into custody from a house on Road No. 1/A of Sector 5 in Uttara. A case is pending against him at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. He was later handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
Local residents reportedly gathered in front of Huda’s residence before police arrived and took him into custody.
DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam confirmed that Huda is currently under their custody.
