The government today (June 19) declared from this year August 5 will be observed as a public holiday every year to commemorate the July 2024 mass uprising.
Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki said this today morning.
He made the announcement while speaking to reporters at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
“The way people across the country stood united during the July 2024 uprising—we want to bring back that spirit,” Farooki said.
At this time he said a series of programmes will be held starting from July 1 to honour the movement.
The main events will take place from July 14 to August 5, with the last day officially recognized as the day of the student-public uprising and now declared a government holiday, the adviser added.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was also present at the briefing.
