Lt Colonel (Retd) Gazi Sirajul Islam, a distinguished son of Mehendiganj upazila in Barishal, has passed away. 

He was 82.

He breathed his last on Thursday (June 19) at 7:30am while on life support at the ICU of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, family sources said.

A former student of Ulania Coronation School and ex-president of the Dhaka-based Mehendiganj Samity, Gazi Sirajul Islam served as the first acting Director General of the Department of Social Services. He played a significant role in social welfare and the development of Mehendiganj.

His namaz-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers at the DOHS Mosque in Mohakhali, followed by burial at Banani Military Graveyard.

Well-wishers have prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family to bear this loss.
