Chairman aspirant’s wife succumbs

MUNSHIGANJ: A woman, wife of a BNP rebel candidate vying for chairman post in Gozaria upazila, succumbed to her injuries at city’s Apollo Hospital on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Laki Akter, 35, wife of BNP rebel candidate Mannan Dewan Mona of Gazaria upazila of the district and resident of the area.

Sources said that earlier on March 23, she sustained bullet injuries in a clash between police and villagers centering upazila polls violence.

She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital then transferred to Apollo Hospital where she died around 10:00pm, after fighting with death for four days.

A total of three persons were killed in the upazila in separate violent incidents during fourth phase of upazila polls.

Gazaria Thana Officer-in-Charge Mamun-Ar-Rashid confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Following the violence, the Election Commission has postponed results of Gozaria upazila of Munshiganj.
