BACK FROM DHAKA COLLEGE: At least four people were injured when two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League locked into clashes in Dhaka College (DC) early Monday over establishing supremacy.
One of the injured was identified as Saiful Islam, a third year student of the college, while identity of the remaining could not be known immediately.
Campus sources said supporters of expelled general secretary Sakib Hasan Swim of BCL unit of the college beat one of Mirja group’s men in North Hostel on Sunday afternoon.
Both groups locked into an hour long clashes with weapons started from 12:45am. During the clashes, they fired gunshots and exploded crude bombs, leaving four injured.
The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
On information, police rushed in at 2:00am and raided the five dormitories of the college and held 15 with locally-made weapons.
Police, however, recovered locally made arms, gun powder, bomb making substances, unexploded crude bombs, machetes, hammers and iron rods from the dormitories.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Joint Commissioner told banglanews “Some 12 to 15 people were detained during the drives and the situation remains normal.”
