DHAKA: According to unofficial results of 73 upazila council polls, ruling Awami League (AL)-backed candidates won in 54 upazilas while Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-backed candidates won in 12 upazilas in the fifth phase of upazila elections.
Awami League:
Awami League candidates won in Monohardi and Raipura of Narshingdi, Laxmipur Sadar, Raipur, Ramganj and Ramgati of Laxmipur, Beanibazar of Sylhet, Sreepur and Kaliganj of Gazipur, Rupganj and Araihazar of Narayanganj, Bamna, Barguna Sadar, Amtali and Patharghata of Barguna, Gopalpur, Mirzapur, Tangail Sadar and Ghatail of Tangail, Sandwip of Chittagong, Dasmina and Kalapara of Patuakhali, Pabna Sadar of Pabna, Alamdanda, Chuadanga Sadar of Chuadanga, Tala and Debhata of Satkhira, Madarganj of Jamalpur, Sirajdikhan of Munshiganj, Chandina and Muradnagar of Comilla, Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar, Bera of Pabna, Louhajang and Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj, Rajnagar and Juri of Moulvibazar, Subarnachar and Hatiya of Noakhali, Austagram and Pakundia of Kishoreganj, Chhagalnaiya of Feni, Goalunda of Rajbari, Rajasthali of Rangamati, Shahjatpur and Belkuchi of Sirajganj, , Domar of Nilphamari, Kaliganj of Lalmonirhat, Fulchhari of Gaibandha, Brahmanbaria Sadar and Kasba of Brahmanbaria, Nandail, Trishal and Gaffargaon of Mymensingh.
BNP:
BNP candidates won in Narshingdi Sadar of Narshingdi, Bogra Sadar of Bogra, Tahirpur of Sunamganj, Hakimpur, Birol and Parbatipur of Dinajpur, Satkhira Sadar of Satkhira, Langdu upazila of Rangmati, Ukhia of Cox’s Bazar, Biswambhorpur of Sunamganj, Ashuganj of Brahmanbaria, Baniachang of Habiganj.
Jamaat:
Cox’s Bazar Sadar of Cox’s Bazar, Sundarganj of Gaibandha, Paba of Rajshahi.
Others:
Among others UPDF-backed candidate won in Dighinala of Khagrachari and Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS) -backed candidate won in Rangamati Sadar of Rangamati.
Earlier, the election took place in 73 upazilas of 34 districts across the country from 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday without any break amid stray violence.
