DHAKA: A total of 149 gold bars, which went missing earlier, were rescued from several policemen of Rapmura Police Station of the city on Tuesday morning.
Police detained three lawmen and one other in this connection.
The detainees are Sub-Inspector Monjurul Islam, Constables Akash Chowdhury and Wahidul Islam of Rampura thana and police informant Roni.
Detective Branch sources said during an interrogation on Monday morning, the detainees admitted that they had embezzled some 165 gold bars from the police vehicle during a previous drive.
A total of 149 pieces of gold bars were recovered in overnight drives, the sources added.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, DB assistant commissioner Iqbal Hossain said, “Numbers of the recovered gold bar might be more but details will be disclosed in a press brief later.”
Earlier on March 13, SI Monjurul seized a car in Balur Maath area of Rampura Bank Colony and took it to the police station.
Later police was informed that there were some gold bars inside the car.
On March 16, the car driver came to take vehicle and gave 70 gold bars to police. But, driver alleged there were some 235 gold bars inside the car.
Following the allegation, Officer-In-Charge, inspector (investigation) and SI Monjurul of the police sation were closed.
