SIRAJGANJ: A police man and a passer-by were killed and five more injured as a prison van overturned in Mulibari rail crossing area under Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, Surya Mandol, 68, hailed from Mulibari village.

Sources said that the prison van, with a death-row convict, was going to Sirajganj court from Gazipur Kashimpur jail. The police van turned turtle at Mulibari rail crossing around 9:15am as its driver lost control over the steering while trying to save a passer-by, leaving a cop and the passerby dead on the spot and five more injured.

The injured were rushed to Sirajganj General Hospital.

Sirajganj Sadar Circle Assistant Super of Police (ASP) Forkan Shikdar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
