DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina categorically said that her government was firmly committed to implement the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Agreement completely.
“The CHT region witnessed unrest and conflict for a long time before 1996. But Awami League government during its tenure from 1996-2001 took initiatives for restoring peace in the region and signed the landmark peace treaty,” she added.
The premier on Monday delivered her main speech on the occasion of World Health Day through a video conference from her secretariat office to Bandarban.
Sheikh Hasina said most of the clauses of the peace accord have already been implemented, while some executed partially.
“We would implement the treaty completely in phases,” she also added.
A source who attended the video conference told banglanews that besides health day issue, the PM also spoke about the Chittagong Hill Tracts peace treaty.
The PM said that her government is working on the implementation of Chittagong Hill Tracts peace treaty.
The treaty will fully be implemented, she added.
Among others, health and family welfare minister Mohammad Nasim attended the inaugural program at Bandarban Cultural Institute auditorium.
