DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the countrymen on Monday and said New Year started by obliterating all rusts of the past.

“New Year will bring joy in everyone’s life, this is my wish,” she added.

The premier came up with the observations while top Awami League leaders went to greet her at the Ganabhaban in the afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina, “Day in day out, the magnitude of the festival of Pahela baishakh is increasing. We want people to observe this festival in a secured environment and this is why we have taken necessary measure.”

She also greeted the expatriates.

Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Abul Hasnat Abdullah, Advocate Sahara Khatun, HT Imam, Dr Dipu Moni, Zahangir Kabir Nanak, acting president of Jubo League Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, Swechhasebok League president Molla Abu Kawsar, Chhatra League president Bodiuzzaman Sohag and general secretary Siddiqui Nazmul Alam, among others, were present in the programme.
