DHAKA: Islamic Development Bank (IDB), a multilateral development financing institution, will set up 180 schools-cum-cyclone centers in coastal areas of Bangladesh.
As part of the project, visiting IDB President Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali inaugurated 24 schools-cum-cyclone shelters on Monday.
Around 2,000 families can take shelter, 250 students can get opportunities of education and about 500 cattle will be kept in these centers during the disaster.
The disclosure came from a press conference in Agargaon area in the city in the noon.
On May 12 in 2008, Bangladesh and IDB signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with IDB in implementing the program.
The government is providing all necessary assistances to in realizing the project.
Dr Ahmad, in his two days visit, earlier visited two centers at Koyra upazila in Khulna and Sharankhola upazila in Bagerhat.
