DHAKA UNIVERSITY: At least five people including cops were injured as Chhatra League men attacked New Market Thana at Nilkhet area in the capital on Friday afternoon.

Witnesses said that a few Chhatra League men of F Rahman Hall of Dhaka University asked to switch off a wireless of a Sub-Inspector while eating at a food and beverage shop at Nilkhet.

Chhatra League men and the SI locked into an altercation when the SI expressed his inability to switch off the wireless as it was for government tasks.

Later, Chhatra League leaders and activists attacked Nilkhet Thana and vandalized the signboard of the Thana, leaving a few constables injured, as police detained three BCL men.

They also vandalized the jeep of the Officer-in-Charge of the Thana, witnesses added.
