PATUAKHALI: Barisal bureau chief of Daily Amar Desh allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his residence in Sabujbagh area of the district town early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as GM Babar Ali, 57, chief of Barisal bureau of the national daily, also former General Secretary of Barisal Press Club.

Local sources said that he might have committed suicide over a family feud. Moreover, there was a longtime dispute over family matters between GM Babar and his second wife.

Second wife of the deceased Jharna Begum said that she married GM Babar Ali around 10 years ago.   Babar came to Patuakhali from Barisal on Friday afternoon.

Locals said from then, the couple locked into quarrel in phases over family matter. Hearing the screaming from the residence at night, locals rushed in and found the hanging body of the journalist.

On information, police rushed to the place and recovered the hanging body around 1:00 am Saturday.

The body was sent to Patuakhali Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

He was involved in journalism profession in 1977 and worked with many local and national newspapers for last 28-year.
