2 electrocuted in Sylhet

SYLHET: Two people were electrocuted in Fenchuganj Bazar area under Fenchuganj upazila of the district early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Roky Mia, 16, and Bimal Prasad, 30.

Sources said that a nor’wester lashed the area which uprooted many trees, torn electric wires, tree branches fell on a tin-shed coil factory roof. Later, the victims came in contact with live electric wire while they were working to remove the tin, leaving the two dead on the spot.

Following the death from electrocution, locals blamed the power station authorities for its negligence in taking any steps to repair supply line though live wires from polls had been hanging on the roof for long.

Protesting the incident, locals blocked Fenchuganj-Maijago road for two hours from 9:00am.

Confirming the matter Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Anwar Hossain told banglanews that after the assurance from high officials, locals withdrew the blockade.
