DHAKA: The High Court Thursday summoned registrar of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Abu Bakar Siddik for publishing a press release on a sub-judice matter and not responding its rule. 

An HC bench of Justice Kazi Reza-Ul-Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain passed the order. 

The court asked him to appear before the court on May 28. 

Besides, the court also issued a rule to explain within two weeks why the contempt of court proceedings should not be brought against him for addressing a sub judice matter by issuing a press release in stead of replying to the rule.

Jahangirnagar University Public Relations department issued a press release on a varsity employee who along with his family members converted to Islam. Later the department concerned apologized facing criticism in this regard.

On April 30, the High Court issued a rule against Jahangirnagar University Public Relations Director.

Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy said the JU registrar published another press release over the matter without responding to the court rule.
