FROM BANK of MEGHNA (MUNSHIGANJ): Rescue ship ‘Prottoy’ and the rescue team finally identified the location of the capsized MV Miraz-4 under 50 feet of water after six hours it capsized.
Death toll rose to 11 while dozens still missing when the launch, carrying over two hundred passengers, capsized in River Meghna in Gazaria of Munshiganj on at 3:00pm on Thursday.
Since the capsize, Navy, fire service, and locals altogether began rescue operations with 40 more heavy and light motor boats, but the sight of the sunken vessel was confirmed after the rescue ship arrives at the spot.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) chairman Shamsudha confirmed the matter to banglanews from the spot.
Meanwhile, 11 bodies were recovered and hundred more remained missing.
MV Miraz-4 left Sadarghat at capital Dhaka and was going to Sureshwar of Shariatpur carrying around 200 people, passengers said.
The vessel went down underwater within three minutes after it was fall under a storm at Meghna River.
Navy, fire service, and local people altogether are conducting rescue operations there.
