RAJSHAHI: Bus-Truck owner and workers went on strike for an indefinite period in all districts of the division from Sunday morning to meet their six-point demand.
The demands include--the immediate halt of plying of Nasiman, Kariman and other illegal vehicles in the roads, halt of the BRTC buses on lease in upazila level, stop any extortion and Police harassment and so on.
Road communication between eight districts of the division---Bogra, Joypurhat, Naogaon, Natore Chapainawabganj, Pabna, Rajshahi, Sirajganj district and other parts of the country remained suspended due to the indefinite transport strike.
No bus or truck was seen plying the roads of the district after the strike started in the morning for the strike called by District Bus-Truck Owners Workers Unity Council.
Earlier on May 15, the organization called a 29-hour transport strike. Later on May 20, they called another strike for 29-hour to press home the same demands.
Later, they formed a convener committee consisting 61 members in this regard and called the indefinite transport strike.
General Secretary of Rajshahi Road Transport Group Munjur Rahman Pitar said that the strike is being enforced as our 6-point demand is not met despite a 72-hour ultimatum on May 21.
The human haulers without fitness and road permission moves recklessly on the roads and these are mainly responsible for road accidents, he added.
Pitar also claimed that many illiterate and untrained drivers are driving the illegal human haulers which are dangerous.
The transport strike will be continued until the demands are met, he added.
