DHAKA: The Dhaka city people are suffering to much as severe traffic jams that has been crippling different routes in the capital since Wednesday morning.
The traffic situation is so terrible that it takes hours to travel even less than a distance of half a kilometre.
The traffic gridlock was seen severe at Rampura, Gulisthan, Uttara, Shahbagh, Farmgate, Karwanbazar and Mouchak area.
Bank official Ahmed Jubayer, a bus plying the Dhanmondi-Natunbazar route, said it took more than two hours to reach Dhanmondi from Natunbzar which usually takes around one hour.
Another passenger Iftekharul Alam, who is private university teacher in the capital, said he and some other passengers have suffered much as traffic jam took more than two hours from them to reach their respective workplace.
Assistant Commissioner (Traffic South) Shaheb Ali said a huge number of vehicles are on the road compared to other days, which is the main reason of the terrible gridlock.
The severe traffic congestion will be continued till the midday, he added.
Meanwhile, hundreds of commuters have to wait at different bus stops across the capital for hours due to shortage of vehicles amid a huge rush of people since the morning.
