Inflation will be stable: Atiur

DHAKA: The Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Atiur Rahman said that the inflation will be stable in 2014-15 fiscal year.

He made the observation in a post-budget press briefing at city’s Osmani Auditorium on Friday.

Governor also said, “Price of several products increased and at the same time, many were decreased. The inflation rate is around seven percent which is positive.”

He also said that “Nothing but political unrest was responsible for the price hike”. 

However, Dr Atiur hoped that the inflation would be stable as the central bank has taken many initiatives in this regard.”

He also said “Many people think that the inflation is related to government’s tendency of taking loans but it is not. Inflation rate rose as government’s target to distribute loan in agriculture and SME sectors was not fulfilled in 2013-14FY.”

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman along with many of the secretaries and high ups of several ministries were present the programme.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday proposed a Tk 250,506 crore budget for 2014-15, fixing the target of attaining a higher GDP growth of 7.3 percent in the financial year.
