CHITTAGONG: Nine people, including a senior superintendent and the jailer of Chittagong Central Jail, were sued over the death of a prisoner in the district on Sunday.
Plaintiff Yakub Kaisar, younger brother of Zakir Hossain, 30–a convicted kidnapper who allegedly committed suicide inside the jail on June 3--filed the case with the Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in the morning.
The court also ordered the deputy commissioner (Detective Branch) of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police to submit report after investigation
The nine accused are senior superintendent M Chhagir Mia, jailer Nesar Ahmed Mukul, doctor of the jail hospital Mostafizur Rahman, Subedars Anju Mia and Humayun Kabir, head jail guards Mohammad Hossina and Abdur Rashid and jail guards M Alamgir and Ziarul Islam
Plaintiff’s lawyer Nasir Uddin told banglanews: “A case was filed over the allegation of killing Zakir by torturing inside the jail under the sections no 302, 201, 203, 204 (34) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.”
He added: “Taking the case under cognizance, the court ordered for investigation into the allegation.”
Family of the deceased said Zakir was killed by torturing, which the jail authorities claimed that he was killed by himself hanging from railing of the sitars with towel.
Zakir (prisoner no 8385/A) was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in a kidnapping case with Karnaphuli Thana of the district.
