Appeal to withdraw names rejected

DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday rejected the appeal to withdraw the names of nine accused, including High Court justice Ruhul Kuddus Babu, from a case.

A SC three-member bench led by Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana passed the order.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam was the prosecutor of the case where Advocate on Record Zainul Abedin moved for the plaintiff.

On November 17, 1988, a Shibir activist, Aslam Hossain, of Rajshahi University was killed. Deceased’s roommate Naoab Ali filed a case accusing 30 people in Boalia Thana where Ruhul Kuddus Babu was the ‘mastermind’.

Later, the Additional sessions Judge-3 of Rajshahi withdrew the names of nine accused, including Ruhul Kuddus Babu.

The prosecution filed a review petition against the withdrawal. 

The High Court rejected the appeal on August 22 of the year.

Later, they filed live to appeal to the High Court Monday and the court rejected the plea.
