155 police men leave for Haiti mission

DHAKA: A total of 155 members of Bangladesh Police left Dhaka on Monday to join United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti.

Assistant Inspector General (media) Jalal Uddin of police headquarters confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Sources said a team consisting of 140 male and 15 female members of police led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Hasan Mohammad Shawkat Ali left the country in a UN rented plane.

Bangladesh is the highest police member sending country in the UN missions as they perform their duties with honesty and professionalism besides keeping the discipline. That brings the rare honor to Bangladesh, sources added.

The Bangladeshi peace keepers are also contributed to the country’s economic development with their remittance.

Some 1700 members of Bangladesh Police have been working as peace keepers under the UN in Congo, South Sudan, Darfur, Ivory Cost, Mali and Haiti.
