DHAKA: A fire broke out at Education Ministry in the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon after the whole day power disturbance.

The fire erupted in a room beside the education secretary’s room in the stair between 18th and 20th floor of No. 6 building around 4:40 pm.

An electric box was burnt in the blaze.

Executive Engineer Shamsul Alam of Public Works Department primarily assumed that the fire was originated from the electric short-circuit.

He said because of the power imbalance on whole day results the fire as the voltage increased up to 450v which limit is 380v. 

Secretariat officers said the fire services unit of the office doused the fire after 12 minutes of firing with the fire extinguisher.

A unit of fire fighters team also arrived on the spot.

Secretariat power center sources said the offices faces several times load shedding due to internal power distribution problem.
