JMB chief, 2 sidekicks remanded for 6 days

Dhaka: Detective police took Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) chief Maulana Saidur Rahman and two of his associates on a six-day remand for grilling about their redesigned militant network.

The two others are Abdullah–hel-Kafi and Saidur’s wife Ayesha Khatun.

Metropolitan Magistrate Konika Biswas granted the remand when DB inspector Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman, also the investigation officer for the case, produced them before the court and prayed for taking them under custody for 10 days each.

A special team of police on May 23 night arrested the new chief of the militant outfit Abu Bakar Siddique alias Shibtu after carrying out an operation in a house at east Donia under Kadamtoli thana in the city.

On Shibtu’s statement police reined in the three others from a house at Nurpur mosque road of the same locality on May 25.

SI Saiful Islam of detective police Wednesday filed a case with Kadamtoli thana in connection with the latest bust of the Islamist organization that was ruined with the capture and execution of its top-order leaders.
