USA authority has decided to send back illegal Bangladeshi residents as per declaration by President Donald Trump.
However, Bangladesh government has requested the US to ensure that its citizens are not sent back in a disrespectful manner.
Before the election, US President Donald Trump announced that if he won, he would deport illegal immigrants from all countries. Following this policy, the US is now deporting illegal Bangladeshis along with immigrants from other nations. The US has already sent a message regarding this matter.
On Wednesday (March 5), an inter-ministerial meeting was held at the Secretariat regarding the deportation of illegal Bangladeshis from the US. Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury chaired the meeting, which was attended by senior representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare. Foreign Secretary Md Jasim Uddin represented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to sources, discussions were held on preparations for receiving illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Bangladesh will continue diplomatic talks to ensure a smooth return process for its citizens.
Bangladesh has agreed to take back its citizens. However, it has already urged the US not to deport them in a humiliating way, such as chaining them like Indian deportees. The exact number of illegal Bangladeshis in the US has not yet been disclosed.
