BGB seizes 4.4kg gold in Jessore, 5 held

JESSORE: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 4.4kg gold bars in Laujani area in Jhikargachha upazila on Sunday.

Sources said, meanwhile, BGB also held five Indian smugglers in this connection.

The arrestees are Kamal of Nagpur, and Laxman, Vijay Kumar, Raj Kumar and Ashok of Maharashtra state in the neighboring India, sources added.

Sources told banglanews that BGB, acting on a tip off, conducted a drive while the Indian smugglers were heading to Benapole to cross the border with gold.

They searched a Benapole-bound BRTC bus in Laujani area around 1:45pm, sources added.

BGB Battalion-26 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Matiur Rahman said the BGB seized 36 gold bars during the drive from five Indian nationals.

The weight of the seized bars is around 4.4kg, he added.
