Finance Bill passed, food price likely to decrease

FROM PARLIAMENT:  Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Saturday said food inflation was a bit excessive at the beginning of 2013-14 fiscal year due to hartal and strikes.

At present, political stability has come back to the country, which would keep food supply normal, Muhith added.

The minister was told the parliament while placing Finance Bill before the House during the budget session.

Opposition lawmaker Nurul Islam Milon proposed for more public opinions and independent lawmaker Rustom Ali insisted on more securitization of the bill. The House rejected all proposals and passed the bill over voice vote unanimously.

AMA Muhith said, “Food prices will decrease in the upcoming days as the prices are lessening across the world including the neighboring country.”

“Above all, general inflation will decrease due to the impact of satisfactory agriculture production and supportive monetary policy of Bangladesh Bank,” the minister told the parliament.

Muhith said, “Country’s police situations have become normal; as a result net export income will increase.”

“Food price will decreases, if the existing political situation continues, but inflation will increase a bit,” he added.
