DHAKA: The death references and other documents of the Ramna blast verdict were sent to the High Court to ready the paper book.

After preparing this it will be submitted to the respective bench, said Supreme Court registrar AKM Shamsul Islam.

On June 23, Additional Sessions Judge of Dhaka-2 Ruhul Amin placed the order of eight people to be sentenced to death and six others to life imprisonment in the case.

The death convicts include Mufti Hannan, Arif Hasan Sumon, Maulana Akbar Hossain, Maulana Mohammad Tajuddin, Hafez Jahangir Alam Badar, Maulana Abu Bakar alias Hafez Selim Hawladar, Mufti Shafikur Rahman and Mufti Abdul Hai.

Among them, Mufti Hannan, Arif Hasan Sumon and Maulana Akbar Hossain are in jail but the rest are fugitive.

Those who sentenced life imprisonment are Shahdatullah alias Jewel, Hafez Maulana Abu Taher, Maulana Abdur Rauf, Maulana Sabbir alias Abdul Hannan, Maulana Shawkat Osman alias Sheikh Farid and Hafez Maulana Yahia.

The convicted are also fined Tk 50 thousand each, in default, they have to enjoy a year additional imprisonment.

The blasts took place during the traditional Bangla New Year 1408 celebrations organized by Chhayanaut at Ramna Batamul in city.

On the day of the blast, Sergeant Amal Chandra of Babupura Police Station filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station. Later, the Detective Branch and Criminal Investigation Department took over the case.
