COX’S BAZAAR: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-42 members seized a Myanmar trawler with 170,000 pieces of yaba tablets on Naf’s confluence in Shah Parir Dweep area of the district on Sunday noon.

BGB sources said, on suspicion, a patrolling team of BGB Battalion-42 signaled a trawler from Myanmar to stop but people on-board tried to escape with the vessel.

The border guards fired a warning shot and the smugglers on the trawler jumped into the river and fled.

At one stage, the BGB members seized the trawler and yaba tablets from the area.

BGB-42 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Abujar Al Zahid confirmed the matter to banglanews.
