Gunfights kill 2 in Jhenidah

JHENIDAH: Two suspected criminals were killed in separate gunfights with police in Harinakunda upazila of the district early Saturday.

The deceased were identified Abdur Rashid, 30, son of Islam Uddin Mandol and Hazrat Ali, 42 of Kotchandpur upazila.

Harinakunda Thana Officer-in-Charge Ershadul Bari told banglanews, “Acting on a tip off that some criminals are holding a clandestine meeting in Rishkhali Amtola area of Harinakunda Upazila. Then police went to raid the area early hours of the day. 

Sensing the presence of police, miscreants opened fire aiming police which triggered a gunfight, leaving Hazrat Ali dead on the spot.”

Besides, Kotchandpur Thana Officer-in-Charge also said that Abdur Rashid died in another gunfight with police at Dora village under Kotchandpur Upazila. 

The bodies were sent in Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
