DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Atiur Rahman on Monday strongly criticized the media.

“Media has been publishing negative reports about some recent irregularities in banking sector though the central bank has taken stern actions against them,” he said.

The central bank boss came up with the discontent in a meeting with the executives of scheduled banks of the country.

He also claimed that media is not publishing reports about various positive achievements, including strengthening banking supervision in the last five years.

The BB governor further said one or two incidents of irregularity cannot blot out all positive achievements.

Dr Atiur also warned the executives of scheduled banks saying that the central bank would not shrink back from taking actions if any breach of discipline is seen.
