DHAKA: Staffs of Biman Bangladesh Airlines stage demonstration in their main office Balaka on Wednesday to press home their 14-point demands.
As per the schedule of their movement, agitating staffs gathered in the office and starts demonstration at 9:00 am.
They were echoing slogans against the authorities as they hand over grand handling into the private sectors.
The staffs were hindering the officials to enter in the Balaka office.
Meanwhile, several police were deployed in the spot to avert any unwanted situation.
Earlier on Tuesday the staffs also besieged the Biman Flight Catering Center (BFCC) to press their demands.
They also besieged the office of chairman Jamal Uddin Ahmed and managing director Mosaddek Ahmed on the same demands.
Biman Shramik League President Mashiur Rahman announced the programme at airlines’ headquarters in Balaka Bhaban in the city on June 25.
Their demands are introducing organization organogram (Maps and Directions), uniform bonus, cent percent medical allowance, making the job permanent for casuals, increasing food allowance and providing facilities to Biman Flight Catering Centre (BFCC) employees as equal as the employees of the national carrier.
They also demanded dearness allowance from the government declared date.
In January in 2013, Biman employees staged strong movement demanding the introduction of uniform allowance and increasing food allowance. At one stage, they demanded stepping down of Biman chairman Jamal Uddin.
The then civil aviation minister Faruk Khan agreed to meet the demands.
Later, the demands were not passed in the meeting of Biman’s board of directors. Biman sources said that some of directors agreed to meet the demand but its chairmen opposed.
