SIRAJGANJ: Five bodies recovered and nine people went missing after a boat with 50 passengers on board capsized at Baguchia point of the Jamuna River in Chauhali upazila of the district on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Dilu Begum, 32, her husband Mukter Hossain , 40, Adari Begum, 18, Noyantara, 50, and Rasheda Begum.

Police with the help of locals recovered them and rescued 35 people while the rest nine remained missing between 11:30am and 1:30pm.

Chauhali Thana officer-in-charge Shamsul Haq confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Death toll may rise as rescue operation is underway.

Besides, district administration handed over TK 50,000 to families of victims.
