DHAKA: The government has decided to form a committee to outline the future framework for using resources at sea.
Sources in Foreign Ministry said that with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair a meeting is going to be held in this connection on August 20.
The sources also said that it will be the first meeting after settling maritime boundary dispute with India.
The concerned ministry and departments will suggest how to use and collect sea resources and the new committee will follow the directives.
The government will start the work soon for collecting data of the sea resources to know the amount of sea wealth.
Bangladesh don’t need to pay any funds to International Seabed Authority (ISA) for next five years after fixing maritime boundary, so the government wants to step forward to collect sea resources during this time.
Earlier, Bangladesh won another maritime boundary dispute with India after the last one with Myanmar. The Permanent Court of Arbitration at Hague in Netherlands has awarded Bangladesh 19,467 square-kilometers out of total 25,602 square-kilometres disputed area with India in the Bay of Bengal.
