KOLKATA: Homage was paid to father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the historic Bekar Hostel in Kolkata, capital of Indian state of West Bengal, on Friday to mark the 39th martyrdom anniversary of the great leader and the National Mourning Day.
Deputy-high commissioner Abida Islam of Bangladesh deputy- high commission in Kolkata placed floral wreath at Bangabandhu’s sculpture there in the morning, followed by offering dua seeking eternal salvation to the departed soul of Bangabandhu.
Bangladesh Biman manager (finance) Mohammad Mossarrof Hossain and Sonali Bank chief executive officer Sarwar Hossain, among others, were present there.
During the student life, Bangabandhu resided at Bekar Hostel in pre-partition period during the British rule when he was studied law at Islamia College (now Maulana Azad College).
At Kolkata, Bangabandhu involved in student politics, was elected general secretary at Islamia College’s students’ union.
Bangladesh deputy high commission in Kolkata will hold a discussion to mark the day.
National flag has been kept half-mast at the depty-high commission to mark the day.
